Top 5 Most Satisfying Endings In Video Games

Posted on Aug 18, 2009 09:18:10 AM

Do you know that feeling when you beat a game and the ending just makes you wish you hadn’t even picked it up? This is the top 5 list of games that don’t make you do that. Instead, the endings in this game give you huge satisfaction and leave you wanting a whole lot more.

10. Metal Gear Solid 3

An ending where Big Boss gets laid deserves the top spot on our list. After watching close-ups of Eva’s boobs all game, you probably were thinking – WHEN will she get some action? And although the part after it was a bit cliche with the whole conspiracy and sleeping agent stuff (YOU WHORE!), I cry every time I watch the final sequence on the cemetery. Too bad Kojima went crazy after this game.

9. Resident Evil 4

Hey, after killing a whole bunch of zombies, a nice waterbike ride with a hot presidents daughter isn’t that bad.

8. Gears of War 2

Do you know why GeoW2 makes the list? Because of just how high CliffyB was when trying to develop an intriguing story. Anyone sane enough — and not fanboyish enough — will laugh when they just start to think about the whole underground castle thing and specifically placed barricades that come up with levers. They could’ve just left the story part of the game blank – would make more sense. But for trying waaayyy too hard, this game ending makes the list. It’s just ridiculously funny story-wise, but intense gameplay-wise.

7. Tekken 3

Ok, so the story doesn’t make much sense in the world of Tekken. But at the time it was released, you would usually try to beat it just for the cut-scenes, and some of them were truly creative. Especially The Loop cutscene, or the Pandas bit. It is still unclear what actually happened there, but such cinematics were something out of the ordinary.

6. Hitman Contracts

This was already on one of my lists, but what the hell. When you think you’re dead and the credits are rolling, most gamers just sat down and relaxed. But others started pounding the controller and realized that Diane wasn’t a bitch after all. Who would’ve known.

5. Half-Life

Although I still hate you Valve, back in the day you took the sense of achievement to a whole new level. The final boss combined with the G-Man choice scene made this one of the most memorable game endings ever. Now, how’s that Episode 3 coming?

4. Warcraft 3

Although Warcraft 3 became known to most for it’s online competition part, the story was actually really good – both in the original and the expansion. The campaign was epic and anyone who’s a fan of World of Warcraft should definitely play it to find out how things played out. Not to mention that it’s worth it for the final cutscene alone.

3. Dead Space

What really happened? Was she a zombie walking there helping you out, while you were poisoned by that ‘thing’ ? Was Isaac just plain crazy? Who knows, I guess we’ll have to wait for a sequel. And yes, I just spoiled your game if you haven’t beat it.

2. Bioshock

Would you kindly?

1. Silent Hill 1, 2, 3

The first 3 Silent Hill games were epic. Each had its strengths and weaknesses, but the endings always made the experience worthwhile. Not to mention the funky alien versions! It was funny, back then I didn’t have access to reviews and blindly picked up games. When I got Silent Hill, I was like – why aren’t other games this good? Either way, all 3 parts deserve a special place on this list, won’t spoil the stories here.
